Artist & Writers in Residence

The Hale Mahalo ("House of Thanks") is a beautiful space with a 320 sq. ft. living room and sleeping area ~ with bamboo flooring and ample closet space ~ a 192 sq. ft. studio, a 120 sq. ft. upstairs loft, with a double bed and zaffus for meditation, and a small outdoor kitchen on the covered lanai (porch) and another lanai for dining. It overlooks a beautiful garden and Mauna Loa volcano in the distance.

Surrounding the Hale Mahalo are colorful plants and trees, including sacred green Hawaiian Ti and many others. A rainbow eucalyptus greets one at the front entry. Retreatants have their own private outdoor solar shower and a composting lua/toilet.

The entire sanctuary is off the grid and several of the dwellings, including the Hale Mahalo, have solar panels for electricity. No large appliances please.

This house usually rents for $170 per night for short term guests. $1070 per week.

It is now being made available to writers and artists who wish to be in a peaceful atmosphere in order to cultivate sustained inquiry and creativity.

The "Artist and Writers in Residence Retreat" is offered throughout the year and the Hale Mahalo is available for $2450 per month OR $1950 per month plus an hour per day, per person, caring for the gardens (IF there are projects which need attention during the time of your stay.) All proceeds go directly into the upkeep of the land & buildings and to finance the maintenance of the ever-expanding organic orchards and gardens.

For artists and writers who wish to stay longer than two months, the cost is negotiable. Rashani is always open to trades and offers scholarships when needed.

For artists and writers who don't need such an elegant space, there are other, less expensive options.
